Somebody Else’s War
Frontline Reports from the Balkan Wars 1991-92
This is not armchair reporting. It is the story of the wars in Slovenia and Croatia: from the frontline, from childrens’ hospitals, from a mortuary on Christmas Eve. The author was in Slovenia as the wars in former Yugoslavia broke out – his ‘plane was destroyed at Ljubljana’s Brnik airport shortly before it was due to take off – and he carried on to report the wars in Croatia and Bosnia. This book formed the basis for the first BBC TV documentary on the wars in former Yugoslavia, shot over Christmas 1992.
